It’s not been a pleasant few months for Iggy Azalea. Throughout the rollout of her new album, she’s suffered barbs at the hands of Halsey, a verifiably bad track or two, and now this: Azalea says that Def Jam CEO Steve Bartels refuses to release any more singles from her sophomore record. This means the news of Iggy collaborating with homonymous problematic cohort Azealia Banks puts a limp punctuation mark on this stage of Iggy’s second record.

Azalea revealed the news through a series of tweets Saturday morning, July 8. She said she was “very disappointed” with the rollout of the record, but it wouldn’t deter her from plowing forward with her career. She even assured fans a third album is planned.

Iggy Azalea has dismissed Halsey’s comments and insisted she doesn’t know the singer who accused her of having a “complete disregard” for black culture.

Just last week (ends25Jun17) Halsey, real name Ashley Frangipane, called Fancy rapper Iggy a “f**king moron” and someone who she’d never invite to appear on one of her records.

Her criticism came after hip-hop stars Q-Tip and Azealia Banks have also questioned Iggy’s place in the genre of music.

However it doesn’t seem as though the blonde Australian is fazed by Halsey’s criticism as during an interview with Kent ‘Smallzy’ Small on Nova FM’s Smallzy’s Surgery Iggy insisted she doesn’t know the New Americana hitmaker.

“It’s a bit weird to bring someone up in an interview that you weren’t asked about,” she mused.

“I don’t know her, I’ve never met her or interacted with her in any capacity so I thought it was a bit of strange thing to kind of throw that out there.”

But Iggy appeared to let Halsey, 22, off for her comments, noting she’s still young and she hopes the Now or Never singer learns to be less judgmental considering she’s in the “same shoes” as an artist.

“I’m sure she’s getting judged all the time as well by people who don’t really know her,” Iggy continued. “So I think maybe it will be good for her to try be a little more empathetic to other people that are in the same situation.”

Ending the topic by acknowledging Halsey more than likely received a question which she felt uncomfortable answering, Iggy pointed out the blue-haired musician probably used her name as a deflection and that she doesn’t think she had “anything to do with it”.

Halsey has yet to further address her remarks about Iggy and is currently on the road as part of her Hopeless Fountain Kingdom World Tour, accompanied by Charli XCX and PARTYNEXTDOOR.

The beef between Iggy Azalea and Azealia Banks dates back to 2011, but it looks like it has finally come to an end. The two female entertainers have their fair share of differences and view points, but fortunately, they might be on their way to squashing the longstanding beef.
After Banks recently initiated talks of potential reconciliation on Twitter, the “Switch” pop star responded with a message on Snapchat talking about her issues with Banks and why she can often sympathize with the Harlem MC.

“I just want to say FYI; re A. Banks. Call me crazy but girl; I don’t hate you. I don’t know you to hate you,” Azalea wrote. “I believe you may want to meet me in person so you can steal a lock of my hair and cast a spell hoping I die (lol) I don’t agree with many of your opinions but honestly, at times I empathize with you as a creative Gemini woman. I wish you had spoken to me before deciding I was out to get you when we first came on the scene, but that’s also typical Gemini reaction shit (I get it). As a 27 year old adult woman just know: I wish you well from one human to another and joke collaboration or not as adults we should move past trivial beef with strangers.”

Following Iggy’s statement, Azealia spoke with XXL about her desire to have an open discussion with the pop star.
“I think a true reconciliation can happen once there is some acknowledgment of what hip-hop has been trying to tell her. I still don’t think she quite understands the effect her racial privilege and the socio-economic leverage that comes with it has on a marginalized group of women’s culture,” Azealia said. “Race aside, this is also a women’s issue. I hope that there will be a chance for us to have an open discussion about this, as I feel America and the world could really benefit from some candid discourse between two public figures about the world’s biggest sickness: racism. I wish for women of the future to be able to refer to this moment in women’s culture as an example of what can happen when people take time to understand.”

Iggy Azalea took the stage on James Corden’s The Late Late Show last night (June 13) for a smoky, twerk-filled live rendition of “Switch,” her new single featuring Brazilian vocal sensation Anitta. The performance (sans Anitta) comes ahead of the Aussie artist’s sophomore effort, Digital Distortion, which is now set to drop June 30 after a string of setbacks and delays.

During the Late Show episode, the “Fancy” artist also joined Jane Krakowski, Kate Mara and Lily James for a messy game of “Flinch,” where contestants do their best to keep martinis from spilling while Corden tries to make them, well, flinch.
Watch both Iggy’s performance and martini-splashing match go down in the video clips below.
