A sold-out crowd chanted “Iggy! Iggy! Iggy!” impatiently as Iggy Azalea’s stage crew ran through finala preparations for her show Friday night, Sept. 12, at the Meadow Brook Music Festival.

Azalea, along with Magic!, performed for the Oakland University Student Programming Board 2014 concert, an annual event that in previous years has hosted Kendrick Lamar, Gym Class Heroes and Steve Aoki, among others. This year’s show was also the end of Meadow Brook concert season.

The chart-topping Azalea’s group of backup dancers took the stage as fans cheered to the opening melody of Azalea’s cover of Aoki’s “Beat Down.” Azalea appeared to a roar from the crowd, and she jumped right into her first song.

For an act that’s a genuine pop sensation, Azalea’s stage set was modest, featuring only a DJ booth and a small riser, the latter of which Azalea climbed frequently throughout the show as her dancers hugged the front edge of the stage. The Australian singer and rapper’s hour-long set consisted of mostly fan favorites such as “Black Widow,” “F**k Love” and “Work.” And , not surprisingly, the crowd’s roar doubled in volume in response to Azalea’s last song, her breakthrough hit “Fancy” – and the Oakland University students could be heard still singing the song’s chorus as they trooped back to their apartments and dormitories.
